It's November, and that means Thanksgiving in the USA. And even with tough economic times and killer storms assailing us, most of us have a lot to be thankful for.

Last month, we made possibly the biggest announcement of the 21 years that Dachshund Delights has been around. You can read all about it by clicking here. But, to sum it up, we're founding a sanctuary and hospice for senior dachshunds, and naming it Scarlett's House, after our own beloved Scarlett.

We're on a new, life-changing mission here at Dachshund Delights. Not only life-changing for us, but also for homeless senior dachshunds.

If you keep up to date with the Dachshund Delights Facebook page – and if you don't, you really ought to – you no doubt saw our announcement that Dachshund Delights is the official harness and canine costume provider for the upcoming movie "Wiener Dog Nationals"! Our Hug-A-Dog Harnesses, Snap-A-Dannas, Doxy Racing Team patches, hats, a harness dress, and a costume we designed will be in the movie!

This isn't the story we set out to write. That story was a celebration. This isn't the story that we wanted to write, although we knew we would eventually. This story is a memorial. But because the subject of the story naturally inspired such things, it's a celebration as well.

Memorial Day has come and gone, and that means that we're in the midst of dachshund racing season. Most of us will be able to find at least one local dachshund picnic that features races.

On May 12, we mark the two-hundredth anniversary of the birth of Edward Lear. If Lear is remembered at all these days, it's usually as the author of The Owl And The Pussycat. In his day, though, and in spite of his calling as an illustrator, he was known as the author of the wildly popular A Book Of Nonsense, the book that revived and popularized the limerick.

This is going to be old news to a lot of you, but we recognize that some of you still visit our site once a month – at the beginning of the month – and don't visit our Facebook site. (Let us throw in a plug here. If you're not visiting our Facebook page, you're not where the action is. Facebook lets you interact with us and your fellow dachshund lovers, sharing observations and photos and getting your questions answered.)

I love to fly. Well, OK, I hate most things about the process of flying, but I love the fact that you can board a plane in Ohio and deplane a few hours later somewhere on the other side of the country. I can be in Montana in about 4 hours or to California in 5+ hours. Unless your intention is a cross-country drive to take in all the sights, flying is the only way to go.

Our seamstress here at Dachshund Delights is a fairly even-tempered woman. There's not much that rattles this cool cat. Unless … that cool cat crosses paths with a snake – or – a mouse.

Someone remind me why I have dachshunds. And I have not just one dachshund – no – that would never do … I have nine dachshunds. Well, OK, two of them are Doodles (longhaired dachshund and poodle mix), which at times provide us with a Jekyll & Hyde performance of being a dachshund one day and a poodle the next day. I won't say which of the two breeds is more like Mr. Hyde.
