Last month, we made possibly the biggest announcement of the 21 years that Dachshund Delights has been around. You can read all about it by clicking here. But, to sum it up, we're founding a sanctuary and hospice for senior dachshunds, and naming it Scarlett's House, after our own beloved Scarlett.
This does not mean that we're shutting down our Dachshund Delights business. Your dogs need our Hug-A-Dog® harness vests, and we will still be selling them.
This does mean that we're reaching out to you for help founding and running this new non-profit venture.
Because of your generosity, we're moving forward and getting the land we need to make Scarlett's House a reality. That's the first step, and there will be many more to come.
This month, you have the opportunity to help us while shopping for yourself. Here's how to do it.
October 2 through October 7. Last month we did an article on master jeweler and dachshund fan Merry Rosenfield. Click here to read it. For six days in October, not only will she donate 17% of the purchases you make from her to Scarlett's House, but she will also give you a free pair of handcrafted dachshund earrings. Sound good? You can read the full instructions on this page. You can buy any kind of the jewelry Merry makes, but note that she does a lot of dachshund designs. We can vouch for her skill and her customer service, and this would be a good deal even if you weren't getting free earrings as part of the deal.
The Magic Zoo fundraiser mentioned in the paragraph above is over and WOW did you ever come through for us. Merry tells us that it's the best response she's ever got from a group, and she's going to be sending us a check for more than $750. Thanks to all of you, and thanks to Merry.
October 20 – November 20. (Note that these dates have changed since we first published them.) Our other October shopping fundraiser is by Charity Plaster. She is an independent rep for the company Thirty-One, which offers a nice selection of bags, wallets, home accessories and stationery.
